Posts: 74 (03/22/09 11:04 PM) Dollie-Rama of Bunker-Rama More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None here is the price breakdown for class A at nationals $2000 for entry so 200 per person Hotel should be the same for people around 100 per person I think paint: ISU won it last year and they played 5 matches and played roughly 15 points per match so 75 points total. we shot 6 cases for 12 games so figure 6-7ish per match so 30-35 cases of paint assume 40 a case. so 1200-1400. so 120-140 per person Gas and all that should be about the same prolly around 40-60 bucks per person depending on cars so with not club money or extra money from the sports club which pat says we can get your looking at $480ish now Class A is entry: 550 so $110 paint at least 6 cases@40 so $48 Hotel: still around 100 per person Gas: Same 40-60 per person Total $308 the team that went to isu this weekend is down. let me kno what you guys think about it.

We didn't go to ISU because of financial issues, so why would you propose an offer that costs us even more money? Doesn't make sense to me. I agree with Travis. Maybe if you would come to a meeting or two, more thought and planning could go into this. You guys are more than welcome to take the line you had at ISU and play class A. I feel that making a move to class A would not only be stupid on our part because we have no practice on that format nor do we have practice as a team, but it would be the same as throwing money out of the window. Sure it would be fun, but that would be about it. I haven't even met any of the guys who went to spring ISU, besides Pat. So as of right now, thanks, but no thanks.

From what I've heard nationals last year, it was difficult enough for dan, brad, and pat to carry just two of you. And then a last place finish at ISU in the fall even with pat on your team. I mean, everyone starts playing tournaments at some point and NO ONE is good at first. We were all bad at some point. haha and this is coming from me, who took a year break and is now terrible. So, we would like to send a line to class A. Getting SIU's name on tv with a good paintaball team tied to it would be a good thing to see for once. Pat said he's going to do what he can to get a decent amount of money from the school to put into the club for nationals. It would be best to use those funds to send a class A line. And I dont just mean the kids that went to ISU last weekend, everyone should PRACTICE and go. Long story short, spending club funds on a not so good finish at nationals is throwing money out the window. We should all man up, practice our balls off, spend the club funds on going to Class A at nationals, playing good teams, having a blasty, and getting on TV...or we could all ditch nationals and spend the money on hookers and booze...im down for either.

There's no need to start unnecessary drama. First off, meetings are THURSDAY at 7PM. If you don't like the time of the meetings then you don't have to be a part of the club. After all, it is voluntary. (Not to mention the fact that we vote on the meeting times at the meetings so if you actually did have a problem you are more than welcome to put your word in AT a meeting.) This is a university organization. It doesn't just advance through playing tournaments. Sure it looks great to have high tournament ranking, but keep in mind, this club doesn't keep it's entire focus on tournament paintball. We don't want to just support ourselves. We want to support the community as a whole. Of course we enjoy practicing, and little do you know, we actually try to practice on a biweekly basis at Xtreme. But there are other ways of appreciating the sport through promotion to youth, etc. This is the kind of thing the university likes to see out of their sport's clubs. So here's the deal. Step outside of the box for a while, and try to see the big picture. If you just want to focus on yourself, then join an Xball team and grow through them. Lastly, please rephrase the last two sentences you posted. I'm not real sure what you meant by them. I really don't want to see this forum turn into a flame fest, guys. If you really have issues with things, please come voice them at the meetings. I'm not afraid to take your criticism. I'm not just a face behind an avatar on a forum. And we aren't actually spending school funding on anything promotional. It's just not as easy to get school funding anymore. Not to mention, the small amount of funding we would actually receive would be spread pretty thin across the 2 lines we would be bringing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's not possible. Posts: 561 (03/23/09 06:05 PM) PaintJockey More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	i would like to think that as a former member of siu paintball, from a time when id say we took the club from close to nothing un organized and sponsor free, to atleast moderately dedicated, somewhat organized, and gained a few sponsorships....how do u get sponsorships u ask? its really a multitude of things...if brett or sara read this they can follow up with even more knowledge and perhaps correct me in any errors....the big one is exposure, and puting an unprepared team on a class A roster to jump on tv and be seen is not only a waste of money but frankly stupid...even "good sports" who are good at losing and have a wonderful attitude dont get sponsorships....now i havent seen you guys play obviously but last place at isu prolly is not a good forshadow for class at at nationals. its sounds to me like you guys need money which is not uncommon...historically it is very difficult to get a substantial ammount of money from the student fund while not impossible (junior year we gained approval to buy a five man air ball field that u guys may or may not even know exists) in short (not really) i would suggest that you guys not do class A at all unless you can send a competitive team...it does no one any good to send a team that is not prepared to be competitive for the tourny...not the school, not the team, not the tv ratings haha, and not the ncpa...we finished in the top ten in the nation one year i was there in year end points and the next year we didnt go class A because we didnt have the number of competitive bodies to play which it doesnt sound like you do either...unless pat, brad, bill, and barret jump on board and at that point would prolly still wanna look at AA the way u guys allocate ur funds at this point is not my concern and probably not any of my business....just my opinion as an alum and former member....maybe some day we can play an alum game (for money) ps...paintball is about having fun...and winning games is fun. if u can have a complete blast at tournaments that ur getting blown off the field all day...save ur entry fee and go play for fun at ur local field. a tournament is meant to be a competitive enviroment

Posts: 562 (03/23/09 07:30 PM) PaintJockey More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	so u are sponsered....what requirements and benefits do these sponsorships carry? no requirements mean u prolly got a few bucks off the jerseys to put their logo on it and xtreme gives u their team rate. and ur whole policy on the meeting deal is out of line as well...people have class and work when they go to school....so if they cant make thurs. night meetings, ur sect. if u have one should post meeting notes and everything should be fine...u telling people that they cant be part of the club if they cant come to meetings is stupid. get dues, thats all that matters to be a member....to play tournaments, the requirements should be to practice....and maybe due to work or school they couldnt go to the meeting that u "voted" and decided when the meeting is...and how many people were present at the meeting where officers were elected that didnt become officers just out of curriousity. pretty democratic i hear.

I can see now that you are just trying to get a rise out of people. Not gonna work on me. There's no reason to get cocky. I've said that before. Everyone has a chance to vote. It's not official at the meetings. If we need to change times for someone who didn't make it to the meetings they can let us know that the meeting conflicts with their schedule. We'll make the necessary changes. We do post most of the information from the meetings on the forum. If not, we send out mass e-mails to everyone who has paid dues to the club. Sure, we would let people play tournaments if they paid dues. The problem is, they don't. If they would at the beginning of the semester when it's required then it would be a totally different story. And most of the guys that want to play tournaments that don't show up to meetings and don't pay their dues know well enough from experience when they are due. Also, meetings AREN'T mandatory. Just recommended. It's nice to have a conversation with someone that has a problem with the way we run things face to face. Not over the forum. It's a little more courageous on their behalf. So you think you got all the unnecessary insults out of your system? If not, I can keep telling you the honest truth. Once again, please try not to jump to conclusions. It doesn't do either of us any good.

From what I hear and judging by their record, those guys are pretty top notch on the field. It's true, we do have a core group. We do practice, and sure we're not pros. But we are competitive. But if we lose, we aren't going lay down and cry. Because like someone already stated on this thread before, we play for the fun of it. Sure, the B team would probably blow us out of the water. Who cares? They should, they have the experience under their belts. If they want to play Class A, that's fine. I have no problem with that. I'm confident in my line of players that we can put up a good fight in AA this year. We have put our time in and are continuing to practice almost every weekend to prepare for nationals. But like I said, if we don't do as hot as expected, then who cares? Just don't try to tell me and all the other fellas what we should do with our hard earned money. I'm spending it on exactly what I want to. I'm having a damn good time, too.

Both sides brought up valid points and I will do my best to address all the valid points in the very near future. Please do not open a new thread to continue this discussion. As for Nationals we will decide at out next meeting exactly what to do. If you cannot make the meeting but you want you want to play Nationals email me at salukipaintball@gmail.com , but you must pay dues to play at Nationals. Paying dues makes you a full member of the club. Any other gripes or complaints feel free to email me at the address mentioned earlier. These are my numbers for Nationals. I usually over estimate things to ensure that there is enough money to handle minor fluxuations. I know it was mention that we could get paint for $37.5/case but I just used $40 for ease of math and same for hotel room which may be closer to $80/night. If you think my math is messed up let me and I will look into, I have been known to make mistakes. If my understand of how Class A Nationals work is correct, only the top 12 teams play on Saturday. Right now there are 14 teams signed up for Class A, which means we will have to play on Friday for a spot to play on Saturday. Some of us have never played X-ball format and it is a different style of play. Nationals Class A Entry: $2000 Hotel: $600 (2 rooms, $100 each for 3 nights) Paint: $1400 (35 cases @ $40/case) Gas: $105/car, $35/person (1840 miles round trip, $2.25/gallon, 25 mpg), we will need to take at least 3 cars and this does not include gas for driving around down there Cost per person: $431.50 (This does not include any food or drink) Class A Requirements: We have to get all paperwork from the school verifying that all members are full time students. We also have to have matching jerseys; we can be fined up to $500 if we do not meet this. I don't think we have enough jerseys of any one type for at least 10 people to use. We also have to be checked in on Thursday by midnight so that means we have to leave no later than Thursday morning and a total of 3 nights in a hotel. Nationals Class AA Entry: $550 Hotel: $200 (1 room, $100 each for 2 nights) Paint: $320 (8 cases @ $40/case) Gas: $105/car, $35/person (1840 miles round trip, $2.25/gallon, 25 mpg), we will need to take at least 2 cars and this does not include gas for driving around down there Cost per person: $235 (This does not include any food or drink) Class A Requirements: There are no special requirements for class A besides jerseys and bring a student ID and drivers license to verify enrollment. I have talked to the Sports Club and there is a very good chance of us getting the entry fee for Nationals covered, while they have some money I don't they can afford to spend $2000 for Class A but I think that I could get entry for 2 teams for Class AA covered. I may be able to pull some money out of the club account to help cover hotel. Then that leaves each person to cover gas, paint, and food, which should be under $200/person.
